I already said it in a completely different thread several days ago:
A true fan is able to suffer with his team. I'd rather go with my team through seven (or more) meager years and retain the credibility of the club than to be successful but sell the soul of the team to the devil (commerce that is).
My favorite soccer / football (depending on your side of the Atlantic) teams play third (Germany) and fourth (England) tier level, respectively. But these teams are uncorrupted and it is always a pleasure to me to see them score against even paltry opponents. Every little counts. No way, that I could cheer any of the big teams that are detached from their fans and only regard them as cash cows.
There is no more satisfaction for me than seeing Notts County making it to the promotion play-offs in League 2. Much more than it would be cheering Chelsea winning the Champions League.
